January 11th saw several key changes to Monday Night Raw. With 2021 following fast on the heels of 2020, it's never been more clear how cards are indeed subject to change. With the prior year being pandemic stricken the Pro Wrestling Industry as a whole has done it's best to circumvent the unforeseen challenges. The obstacles of life and working during COVID-19 especiallyas a sport and entertainment that has Pro Athletes in close proximity to each other. However, with that said, some of the aforementioned obstacles in all actuality presented the WWE with unique opportunities to showcase their ingenuity. All from creating solutions from lessons learned early on in 2020.
One such example of that WWE ingenuity was the construction of the WWE Thunderdome. Another was the cinematic match concept impressively executed by AJ Styles and The Undertaker. The evolution of The Fiend Bray Wyatt. As such was also the highly anticipated and long awaited reveal of Sister Abigail - Alexa Bliss. Prior to WWE TLC, Alexa Bliss had been on a small hiatus from the WWE. She returned immediately after TLC and appeared on Raw. Upon her return after WWE TLC, it was clear that the WWE was indeed pushing the envelope with what they could get away with on a PG program. A request made in an effort to raise ratings and viewership.
Alexa Bliss' return signaled that much needed shift with the reveal of Alexa's Playground with a Freddy Krueger-esq vibe. The atmosphere created for Alexa's Playground was appealing to both children and adults. Wickedly splendid in my opinion. A role I can see myself sinking my proverbial teeth into. Thus far, Bliss' appearances since The Fiend has gone to ground have been immensely entertaining for The WWE Universe. Effectively adding a new layer to the gem they have in Alexa Bliss. She herself ultimately pushing that PG scope with every new appearance. January 11th was no exception.
Alexa Bliss currently has some of the highest rated segments on Raw and among the favorites of the majority of fans as well. A testament to this fact is that as this is written, Alexa Bliss is still trending after how she ended Monday Night Raw. Over a half a day later, Alexa Bliss is still trending in Combat Sports for her throwing a fireball into the face of The Viper Randy Orton. Fade to black. End Raw. Boom. Trending. Fans have recounted the segment to others. They've rewatched it over and over and over again. And then again and again still. All over social media platforms and most especially on WWE's YouTube Channel with the video itself reaching over one million views already.
In the grand scheme of things as the WWE Universe speculates what could possibly be next, one thing is certain, The Viper got too close. Ironic as a Viper is something one would generally not want to get too close to. Irony aside, he played with fire. He didn't heed the warnings. He got burned. Fireball to the face burned was Randy Orton. Alexa Bliss took to her Instagram with only one response to what she did on January 11th's episode of Monday Night Raw. "An eye for an eye…" As this unfolds and the story continues, the WWE Universe may find out once and for all if an eye for an eye really does make the world go blind.
Or. They may find that an eye for an eye is a code of ethics. Justifiable? Ethical? Moral code? Tyrannical? Psychotic? Some of the many questions amassing as Alexa Bliss ended Raw. COVID-19 not withstanding, I'm curiously anticipating what the WWE will do next with Randy Orton, The Fiend, and Alexa Bliss. To the trend and to the new wave of possibilities within the WWE as Alexa Bliss successfully carries the ending of Monday Night Raw. And farther into Tuesday. One thing remains. What will The Viper be willing to sacrifice? What will he knowingly or unknowingly give up of himself in order to permanently silence The Fiend and Alexa Bliss. Do the ends justify the means? An eye for an eye...
