The Undertaker doesn't want to hold on for too long.
While The Undertaker hasn't worked a full-time schedule in nearly a decade, he continues to make special appearances and has worked at least one match every year since 2010 when he began his reduced workload. Many thought Undertaker's last match would be at WrestleMania 33 when he lost to Roman Reigns and left his gear in the ring. But speaking to Steve Austin on the Broken Skull Sessions, Undertaker revealed why he keeps coming back.
"At this point pretty much everybody from our generation, everybody is gone. It's not so much about the matches anymore, it's about personal challenges with me, at this point. Sometimes, Vince wants me to do a favor and do a show. It's about the challenge of it. Can you get yourself to the level that you need to, to go out and perform at the level people expect you [to]? That's my biggest demon at this point. I know the window is shrinking. My biggest fear is becoming a parody of myself. That's something I struggle with. I don't want to stay too long. I always told myself, 'Don't stay too long.' Somedays, some matches happen and I'm like, 'I stayed too long.' Then, you come back and you tear it down again," he said.
Taker went on to say that he thought he was done at WrestleMania 33, which is why he left his gear in the ring, but he got talked into coming back.
The Undertaker proved "he's still got it" at WWE Extreme Rules 2019, teaming with Roman Reigns to defeat Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre in a well-received match. It is unknown if or when Undertaker will wrestle again.
