Victoria Tells The Story Of Why Vince McMahon Did Not Want To Her Bleed During Her First Cage Match

The boss did not want to see any woman bleed.

Former multi-time WWE Women's Champion Victoria recently sat down with fellow former WWE Women's Champion Molly Holly for the 'Ring The Belle' show with DS Shin. The various parties went over a number of topics including how Victoria got her "Widow's Peak" finishing maneuver and they discussed more stories from their respective careers in pro wrestling.

John Cena: I Didn't Explore Being A Heel Because WWE Didn't Feel Confident They Had An Alternative

Victoria recalled going one-on-one with WWE Hall Of Famer Lita inside a Steel Cage on an episode of RAW in 2003 and she was told she was having the cage match when she arrived to the arena. Victoria said that she wanted to bleed during the match to make it look gruesome but the head honcho Vince McMahon thought that fans did not want to see a woman bleed.

“My first Steel Cage match, terrifying. Then I came to TV, and they’re like, ‘You have a cage match’ and I went, ‘No seriously’. They were like, ‘You have a cage match’ and I go, ‘Tonight?’ They’re like, ‘Yeah’ and I go, ‘Are you kidding me?’ Interesting fact about this, gigging -- we gig our foreheads to bleed sometimes or we have the ref gig us or something like that and I wanted to gig." Victoria recalled. "Fit Finlay goes, ‘No, no. You’re not allowed to’ and I go, ‘What? We’re doing a cage match though. They want to see hardcore…’ At the time… I would never do it now, but at the time I was like, ‘Oh we’re so hardcore. We can do anything the guys do’, and we didn’t think it through and I went to Vince to ask him and he goes, ‘No. Thank you Victoria for wanting to do it but no one wants to see a Diva bleed’ and I go, ‘Okay, well maybe the referee can do it’ and we could hardly use the cage match. They didn’t want us using it as much as the guys. So we had to be really… what are we gonna do right here without using the cage but I did tell Lita, ‘Throw me as hard as you can against the cage’ so I can get color -- gigging, naturally, and I didn’t know how to do it, so I went funk [against the cage], and I got a big knot and I guess you’re supposed to scrape it down so you get cut." She laughed. "It’s stupid I wanted to do that too. You know, and it was like, ‘Oh’, and I got a lump but it was a great match and Lita and I… it was the first cage match, and I was very honored to be a part of it. But after that, [every] time going back to work, I was like, ‘Oh my God, what are they gonna have me do now? What am I gonna have to do to get’.... You know, because we just did a cage match, we just did a hardcore match. What do we do to get the fans to stand up for us?”
