White vs. Goto, KENTA vs. Ishii, Naito vs. Taichi, More Announced For NJPW Power Struggle

NJPW Power Struggle card takes shape.

New Japan Pro Wrestling announced Jay White will defend his IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Hirooki Goto in the main event of Power Struggle on Nov. 3.

Hirooki Goto will challenge Jay White for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at the Osaka event. Goto defeated White during the G1 Climax, and kept his momentum going at Destruction in Kobe September 22 by defeating Shingo Takagi. After White captured the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in the main event that night, Goto crashed White?s party. Ever since White has refused to accept Goto?s championship challenge, but after Goto pinned Gedo with an emphatic GTR in Ryogoku, the Switchblade can deny Goto no longer.

Also announced for the event is a NEVER Openweight Championship bout pitting champion KENTA against the man he took the belt from; Tomohiro Ishii.

This is a rematch from August 31 at Royal Quest, but with roles reversed. Back then, Ishii was champion facing KENTA, who won his first NJPW championship thanks in no small part to the assistance of the Guerrillas of Destiny. With YOSHI-HASHI added to the mix, Ishii sought revenge on GoD during the Destruction tour, and came within a hair of the IWGP Tag Team Championships, but KENTA intervened, further infuriating the Stone Pitbull. Can Ishii get his vengeance? Or will KENTA break the difficult second defence streak of the NEVER Openweight Championship?

Furthermore, Tetsuya Naito will once again square off with Taichi after the latter's attack at King of Pro Wrestling on Monday.

If Naito had retained the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in Kobe against Jay White last month, Taichi, who defeated Naito during the G1, would have been in line for a shot. That didn?t happen however, and the Holy Emperor was furious. After he and DOUKI got disqualified against Naito and Shingo Takagi at King of Pro Wrestling, Taichi attacked Naito and laid him out with the Last Ride, before declaring he would do what Naito couldn?t. Now they?ll go to war in Osaka at Power Struggle.

Finally, Kazuchika Okada will team with YOSHI-HASHI to take on Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi in a special tag team match.

Also scheduled for Power Struggle is the finals of the Super Junior Tag League. You can keep up with the additions made to the Power Struggle card at Fightful's events section.
