William Regal Comes To Terms With WWE, Set To Start In January

William Regal has come to terms on his new position with WWE, and he is set to start in the new year.

For the past number of weeks, rumors surrounded Regal's AEW status until Tony Khan confirmed that he asked the company not to pick up his contract option at the end of 2022 so he could return to WWE and work with his son, Charlie Dempsey. Khan announced that he granted Regal's request, so the veteran will be leaving AEW at the end of the year, but as part of his departure, he won't be allowed to appear on television for the next year.

Before he came to AEW, Regal worked for WWE as the company's Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting for several years. WWE released him on January 5, 2022, ending his 22-year tenure, which also included a lengthy run as an in-ring competitor. Regal subsequently made his AEW debut at AEW Revolution 2022, and he spent the next several months with the company.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that Regal has come to terms with WWE on his new position, and he will start in the first week of January 2023. Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp also reported the news. Specific details regarding Regal's position are unclear, but PWInsider noted that he will have a Vice President position.

During his time with AEW, Regal was featured as a member of Blackpool Combat Club alongside Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Wheeler Yuta, and eventually Claudio Castagnoli. He turned on Moxley and helped MJF win the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear. MJF then betrayed Regal and attacked him on the November 30 episode of AEW Dynamite. Regal was stretchered out of the arena, and he was clearly written off TV. He appeared in a pre-taped promo the following week, and he seemingly said goodbye to his stablemates.

Castagnoli recently commented on Regal's AEW departure. Click here to see what he had to say.

Regal previously revealed that Vince McMahon let him out of his WWE contract early after his release so he could jo AEW. More information is available here.
