Young Bucks: We Took 'It's A Marathon, Not A Sprint' As Advice

NXT was quick to congratulate AEW following the first week of the Wednesday Night Wars, putting out a statement regarding the viewership and ratings victory by AEW.

The key line in the statement was, "it's a marathon, not a sprint."

AEW Dynamite (4/17) Sees Total Viewership, Rating Numbers Decrease

It's a line that stuck with AEW Co-Executive Vice Presidents The Young Bucks when it comes to putting together Dynamite on a weekly basis.

"What was the line they put up the first week we won, 'it's not a sprint, it's a marathon'? I actually took that as advice. It's episodic weekly television, let's pace ourselves. Maybe the Young Bucks act doesn't have to happen every week. When you give it to them every other week, it seems more effective. In the beginning, I wanted to be on every show, every time, doing the full-blown Young Bucks act. Now, it's like, let's pace ourselves and have a sustainable wrestling show. We have one shot at this, let's still give them something special every week," said Matt Jackson on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Nick Jackson discussed the balancing act of giving away enough but also having patience, especially in the middle of a pandemic.

"You have to have patience, but at the same time go balls to the wall. It's finding a mixture of that because you don't want to save everything, especially in this pandemic era. We were trying to save things, for instance, the FTR match, we were trying to milk that until we got fans back in the building. We don't know when the world is going to get back together, so we couldn't hold it anymore. Tony [Khan] actually said, 'we have to do it,' so we booked it for Full Gear. Sometimes you have to go balls out but also have patience," he said.

AEW will be putting a big match on free television on December 2 when Jon Moxley defends the World Title against Kenny Omega.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
