Robbie X Believes The Junior Heavyweight Style In Japan Has Gotten Closer To Heavyweight Wrestling Recently

Robbie X believes that the junior heavyweight style in Japan has recently gotten closer to the heavyweight style in the country recently.

Robbie officially joined the NJPW roster in January of last year, and is currently set for his second run at the Battle Of The Super Juniors tournament in the coming weeks.

While speaking to NJPW in a new interview, Robbie X spoke about the junior heavyweight style in Japan changing.

“I reckon so. If you go back to ten years ago, Kota Ibushi, Ricochet, Ospreay, I think so. The famous clip of Ricochet and Will Ospreay doesn’t fit with junior wrestling now; I think there was a reaction where wrestlers didn’t want to imitate that fast paced style and have people get tired of it, but at the same time, it’s something that’s missing from the junior division.”

Robbie was then asked if he feels like the Junior Heavyweight style has come closer to the Heavyweight style in Japan as of late.

“Yeah. I think that’s become more effective, it’s gotten results for the junior heavyweight champions in the last few years, so I wouldn’t criticise, but junior heavyweight wrestling has a speed and an extra dimension to it that makes it special. So when you see me, that’s what I’ll lean into, and that’s what I plan to be doing in this tournament.”
