Shelton Benjamin Says He Wanted To Create Memories In Money In The Bank Matches

Shelton Benjamin did not plan his stunts but was glad to create big moments.

On a recent episode of E& C's Pod of Awesomeness, hosts Edge and Christian discussed with Shelton Benjamin the different ladder matches and Money in the Bank bouts in which they all participated. Edge told the stories about thinking of crazy stunts to do and being confident Benjamin could and would accomplish them. Benjamin chimed in with his side of the story. He said he was glad to do the dangerous looking stuff for multiple reasons but did not know how iconic some of them would turn out to be.

"One thing was, I was the new guy. So in my head 'hey, whatever they want,'" said Benjamin. "Where you guys were giving me the ideas, in my head I'd think 'oh that would be cool.' I didn't realize how cool it would be. The other problem was most of the stuff in my head I am thinking 'oh they want me to play around like I used to when I was a kid.' Do you know how many times my mom has yelled at me 'get off the roof?'" he continued.

Benjamin related his mentality to something he saw Vince McMahon do in a match. Benjamin said he learned to make moments by watching McMahon.

"At the time I wasn't aware of how cool it was until after the fact," said Benjamin. "I remember watching a match, it was Mr. McMahon versus Hogan. I remember the one little scene where Vince comes up to the apron with the steel pipe. He peers over the edge with a grimace on his face. I remember Vince telling the cameraman 'make sure you get my face.' He wanted to create a memory, he wanted to create a moment," he continued.

Some of the moments the three wrestlers discussed were Benjamin running up a ladder to clothesline his opponent and when he rode a ladder down another ladder.

Benjamin is currently on Smackdown in a tag-team with Chad Gable. He returned to WWE in August after about seven years away from the company.
