Jonathan Gresham Talks Working With Sukeban, Credits Adam Abdalla For The Relationship
Jonathan Gresham loves working with Sukeban.
Since debuting in 2023, Sukeban has hosted events around the globe while spotlighting talent like Sareee, Ram Kaicho, Rina Yamashita, and Natsuki Taiyo.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Gresham talked about recently working with the promotion in an agent role.
“It has been phenomenal. I’ve been able to push myself beyond where I thought I should be at right now. I did, I think, six matches in Vegas in four days. That was a really killer schedule. I’ve been thrust into different things randomly. Recently I worked with a company called Sukeban. They perform different places like LA and New York and Tokyo and stuff, and it’s an all women’s promotion, but it’s linked to the fashion world. I was there a couple of weeks ago in New York, and I was helping out put the matches together, kind of like an agent role. I’m going back and working with them on July 3rd, I believe, in LA. So I’m really looking forward to that. So a lot of different things are coming my way that I’ve always wanted to be a part of and learn. So everything’s going really good for me.”
Gresham credited PRODUCE’s Adam Abdalla for getting him in touch with Sukeban.
“That came about because of Adam Abdalla. He runs Cultural Council, which is a PR firm, but he also runs a lot of pro wrestling events. He was a part of JCW for a while, he owns JCW—Jersey Championship Wrestling—but now he’s working on Produce, and there’s a lot going on there. I’ll allow him to reveal a lot of that stuff when the time is right. Adam hooked me up with them. It was a text message. I didn’t know what it was about. At first I thought, because of the way it was worded, it was an agency in Japan. I was like, ‘Well, I need to talk to him first.’ He was like, ‘No, like the agent chose.’ So then I got in contact with him and I understood what it was about. I arrive and to my surprise, a lot of the ladies that were working the show were ladies that I trained with back when I was in Zero1, back in 2012 and 2013. So it was really nice to see them again. I got to see Yuki Lee as well, she was a BJW referee. Now I think she’s freelance. It was just really good to see all those people again.”
Gresham’s relationship with Adam Abdalla really started to grow after his messy exit from AEW/ROH in 2022.
“I’ve worked for him. So I didn’t know the whole story in the beginning when I was working for JCW. I thought it was just Brett owning both brands. After I left AEW, things were pretty downhill for me as far as work and stuff. Lot of relationships that I had kind of disappeared. But the two that remained was GCW and JCW. That’s when I started to talk to Adam a little bit more. We started to build our relationship there, our rapport. So during that time after, I was heavily working for GCW and JCW quite a bit. That’s when I started talking to Adam. In doing so, we just started talking about pro wrestling and then we saw that a lot of things that we were saying were the exact same. We were just wording it little different. So he ended up talking to me about his vision and here we are.”
