Bandido recalls a test he failed from his father when he asked to begin wrestling training at just 10 years old.
Throughout Bandido’s career, he has achieved quite a lot in both the United States and Mexico, where he has wrestled for CMLL and AEW. His career would begin in his teens, but for the current Ring Of Honor World Champion, he would have began training much earlier if not for his father.
While speaking to Close-Up with Renee Paquette, Bandido spoke about a test his father implemented when he asked if he could begin wrestling training at just 10 years old.
“I really wanted to train wrestling when I was 10 years old, and my father told me, ‘yeah, if you can do 10 push-ups, you’re gonna be able to train wrestling.’ I did only seven push-ups. Yeah, I did only seven push-ups then, yeah. My father laughed at me, and he said, ‘ah, sorry, son, not this time.’ Then he moved for, we don’t have enough money to… Well, you know, the situation was bad and my father has to be moved to the States to work a little bit. Yeah, so my house was alone with my mother, my sister, my brother too. I was the big guy, you know, in charge of the house, and when my father was not there, I had the opportunity to train. Without his permission. Yeah, you know? A new gym, Lucha gym, opened in front of my house. So I just went to train.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Bandido spoke about competing in Arena Mexico. You can read more about that here.
