44-years old, and still kicking in the ring, Abyss recently re-signed with Impact Wrestling as an in-ring performer. But that's not the only place you can see him.
"The Monster" remains active on the independent circuit. On any given weekend this year alone, you can see the former NWA Champion face the likes of Marty Scurll, Jimmy Havoc and others -- usually in a hardcore or Monster's Ball match. For Abyss, he's not done on Impact TV, and he's not looking to stop wrestling independently, either.
"I still get out on the indies an awful lot. I enjoy it. I love independent wrestling, getting out and seeing the different promotions and towns, the small towns literally grab you and the passionate fans they have sometimes you don't see in the bigger markets. You'll see Abyss here and there. I re-signed (with Impact) so stay tuned," Abyss told Fightful.com in a recent interview.
In addition to his work in the ring, Abyss also serves in a multifaceted backstage role that often sees him producing matches. While out on the road participating in a robust indie wrestling scene, Abyss told us that it helps him keep his eye on talent to possibly pass along to his employer, even though their roster already has plenty of talent.
"I've always got my eyes open and looking for promising young talent and get them in touch with the right people. You find a lot of diamonds in the rough out there, there's so much talent with as hot as the indie scene is. It's a tough business to get into, man. It's like trying to get into acting in Hollywood. There's so much talent and so few spots," said Abyss.
