Every year around Royal Rumble time, the funnest part of the event and its buildup is guessing who could make their debut or return at the Rumble.
Rumors run rampant about who could be coming into the company, even if only for one match. Throughout the more than 30 years of its existence, the Rumble as seen countless comebacks, including appearances by Diesel/Kevin Nash, DDP, Booker T, Mick Foley, Mr. Perfect, and so many others. One name that keeps getting tossed around in recent years, that fans would love to see enter the match, is Matt Cardona.
Cardona recently spoke with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp at the Squared Circle Expo and he was asked about the Rumble rumors. During the interview, Cardona gave a very honest, surprising, vulnerable answer.
"It's flattering, exhausting and disappointing," Cardona said. "Because I know that I'm not in it, especially when I was in Indianapolis. Bro, I made a lot of money at WrestleCon, but if I got like five bucks for everybody who asked me, I'd have even more money. I mean, in all seriousness, like I love that people want to see me, that they think I should be there. Even this past year at WrestleMania, like the amount of people at WrestleCon, ‘When are you coming back? We want you back.’ It’s not up to me. Being in that WrestleMania hotel, so many people from the office, higher ups, wrestlers, ‘Oh, you should be back here.’ ‘Okay, well, don't tell me that. What do want me to do?’
Still, Cardona said, it's nice that fans continue to wish that he'd enter the Royal Rumble. But wishes don't pay the bills.
"I guess it's flattering," he said. "But what do want me to do? You guys have the power. There's some people you could post on social media, say ‘Hey, @whoever. We want Matt Cardona,' or whatever. I've done all I can do. I've done all I can do."
Cardona also spoke about the "Dream Match" that he had with Adam Copeland in AEW. Fans can read those comments here. Cardona also spoke about the importance of Evolving his character.
