WWE confirmed the news on August 3:

We have come to terms on the release of Ric Flair as of today, 8/03/2021.

Flair is one of the most legendary wrestlers in history, touted as a 16-time World Champion by the company. Though Flair hasn't wrestled since 2011, he has been used in various on-screen roles in WWE since rejoining the company in 2012.

He was involved in a storyline with Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair in January and February, but the storyline was dropped when Evans became pregnant and was removed from television. Charlotte ended up sending her dad home as a result.

Ric commented on the storyline in May, saying he didn't like it, but that he couldn't win an argument with Vince McMahon. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Charlotte Flair remains an active part of the roster and is set to challenge for the WWE Raw Women's Championship at WWE SummerSlam.
