CM Punk Didn't Get In Trouble For Reacting To 'Yes' Chants, Talks Promo Freedom In AEW

On the August 25 episode of AEW Dynamite, CM Punk teased the arrival of Daniel Bryan in AEW.

While fans were chanting "YES!" in reference to Bryan, Punk said, "That's somebody else's schtick and you might need to be a little more patient."

Speaking to Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions, Punk was asked if he got into any trouble for the comment and potential spoiler.

"No. No one said anything to me," he said.

Punk referenced Bryan multiple times during the interview, saying he wanted Bryan as his fantasy tag team partner against the Young Bucks and said Bryan would have creative freedom in AEW "if" he joined.

Speaking on the creative freedom in AEW, Punk was asked if he was given any direction for his debut promo.

"Close to nothing," he said. "I was the one who was like, 'Just so you know, here is what I'm going to say.' Tony was like, 'I trust you.' 'I'm not going to swear, you don't have to worry about anything like that.' I think that's the youthful exuberance of AEW. Tony trusts people to go out there. Going forward, we'll all learn from our mistakes. If somebody gets the microphone and goes out there, and Tony has trust in them, and they blow it, that person probably won't have that freedom anymore or it will get limited. Right now, the magic of it is 'Phil, what do you think of you and Sting being in the ring? How would you guys do that?' Then me sitting down with Sting and being like 'Sting?' 'You're the promo guy.' 'You're Sting.' There is a synergy and discussion. It's not writers in a room who don't watch wrestling writing stuff for characters that they don't understand, so you don't have individual voices. Me and Sting have an individual voice. I can't tell Sting what he's going to say. Sting can't tell me, Darby doesn't know what he's going to say. You have three different generations who talk three different ways and Tony trusts us to come up with the best possible stuff. That segment we did, I don't think it could have gone any better."

Punk is set to make his AEW in-ring debut on Sunday when he faces Darby Allin.
