Coughlin recently competed in his first ever G1 Climax tournament. Although he wasn't able to walk away as the winner of the tournament, Coughlin picked up big wins over the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hirooki Goto.

Days before the 2023 G1 Climax started, a press conference was held, with all of the participating wrestlers in attendance. At the conference, Alex Coughlin cut a heartfelt promo that was highly praised by many fans, with some describing it as the best promo of his short career.

In a new interview with Fightful Select, Connors praised Coughlin for being a storyteller and for blending his real life demons with his character work.

"Dude, and all that, there ain’t no pro wrestling about it. That’s real life, man. You talk about guys with a mouth on them, Gabe, obviously, can spout off with the best of them and get under people’s skin ala Conor McGregor, right? But Alex is a storyteller. That’s a real man who has some real demons and real stuff that in his life he overcomes and lets it loose. That’s why he’s in the ring, man. He’s just letting it out, letting it out."

Elsewhere in the interview, Connors called out Jay White for trying to stay relevant in AEW with the creation of Bullet Club Gold. Fans can learn more by clicking here.
