Why Mercedes Mone Hasn't Lost In AEW

During a recent interview with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, which was recorded ahead of MLW Lucha Azteca, Hammerstone spoke about how Jacob Fatu's recent success in WWE has led to fans seeking out more of his career and how proud he is of his matches being something fans want to go back and see.

However, he wants to expand upon and outdo his legacy.

"It's crazy that people are still talking about these matches from like five years ago. People are like, ‘Oh, where did Jacob Fatu come from? This guy's crazy.’ ‘Yeah, go watch his matches with Hammerstone.’

"That was four or five years ago," he continued. "It's still a match that stood the test of time and created something special and that's for fans who want to downplay the significance of a company like MLW, they've created a lot of stuff that stood the test of time that people remember, that people still talk about, and it still means something to them. To counteract that point, that was like the most important part of my phone call with Court, coming back was, ‘Okay, yeah, I like MLW. I'd like to come back, but anytime someone talks about MLW and Hammerstone, it's, ‘Oh, you got to watch his trio of matches with Jacob Fatu. If I'm going to come back, that’s [not gonna be my legacy] anymore. We're going to write new chapters. We're going to take it to the next level because, for as great as that part of my career was, and I will always love it, I'll probably be an old man showing my grandkids this match on YouTube someday. At the same time, I don't want that to be where I peaked. I still got a couple of good years left in the tank, and I wanna be able to one-up that."
