Some protagonists fight for the memory of a lost loved one, and some fight for the validation of proving naysayers wrong. "Your Hero" Airica Demia is fortunate enough to have the Solar-powered support of a mother and father who understand the pains of not being supported when chasing your dream.
Airica Demia began training when she was just 14 years old and now, she's branching out and competing on NWA programming and elsewhere.
Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp at WrestleCade, Demia discussed how important the support of her father, The Legend of Solar, has been to her throughout her journey.
"Yes, it is. It’s very important. He, himself, was a wrestler and his parents were not supportive. So he’s like, ‘I’m going to support you with everything I have.’ My mom’s the same way because she had a dream and she wasn’t supported either. So I’m very blessed to have such supportive parents," she said.
Speaking about filming fun vignettes with her dad, Demia gives her father all the credit for getting her out of her shell and allowing her to be her true self.
"I don’t think I’d be able to do them at all if it weren’t for my dad. He’s the one that usually brings me out of my shell," she admits. "I have terrible social anxiety. I have had terrible social anxiety for all of my life. So usually when I’m at a show and I have really bad anxiety, he’s like, ‘Hey, take a breath. You’re fine.’ He just reminds me to be the same person in person that I am on camera because I am my full self on camera ‘cause there’s not people watching me."
Reflecting on some of the vignettes that she's filmed, Airica Demia spotlighted a recent series of vignettes chronicling a romance with a mysterious Wrestle Ranger, a wrestling-based Power Ranger.
"So I recently started a storyline with a wrestling Power Ranger. He’s a Wrestle Ranger. Filming vignettes for that is like my favorite thing ‘cause it’s so ridiculous. It’s a romance angle. It’s amazing. I love it," she said. "I did one where I had a dream that I was sparring with the Wrestle Ranger and he like dipped me and I woke up before the kiss. In the mask, too. There was no mask removal. It’s ridiculous, but it’s hilarious. Then we also did one where it was his nightmare, and it’s basically me joining the dark side of Wrestle Ranger. Like he leads me to a dark alley, pretty much. We make out with the mask on, and then he wakes up screaming."
As for whether or not she feels pressure performing in front of her father, Demia admits that can be a source of added pressure because she knows that her father loves her and only wants the best for her.
"There’s definitely a lot of added pressure because, other than myself, he is my biggest critic because he loves me and he wants me to succeed," she said.
